Better World Books
Better World Books is a Certified B Corporation that funds literacy and education initiatives around the world by matching book purchases with book donations. Since 2003, the company has raised millions of dollars for libraries and literacy programs while keeping hundreds of millions of books out of landfills.
Better World Books sells affordable new and used books online, from bestsellers and classics to children’s books and textbooks. Each sale generates funds for literacy and education programs in the U.S., the UK, and around the world, and every used book sold is given a second life.
Your Impact
For every book purchased, a book is donated to a reader in need through partners like Books for Africa, which distributes books to children across Africa. Each sale also generates funds for literacy and education initiatives, and grants are provided to libraries and nonprofit literacy organizations through the company's literacy fund. According to its B Corp profile, Better World Books has raised $35 million for libraries and literacy, donated more than 38 million books, and reused or recycled more than 475 million books since its launch. Books are collected from libraries, bookstores, and college campuses, so surplus materials are kept out of landfills and put back into the hands of readers. Hundreds of thousands of books have also been donated to the Internet Archive to be preserved and digitized. In 2019, the company was acquired by Better World Libraries, a mission-aligned nonprofit, and it has held B Corp certification since 2008.
